Five things that go wrong between the check-in and the payslip

Every growing company hits these, usually in the same month the team passes thirty people. Each one is answered by a part of the same system.

01

“Attendance lives in a register, and month-end is a week of adding it up.”

Attendance

Check-ins are recorded to the minute, against each person’s shift. Late marks, half-days and overtime are worked out by the rules you set, so the month is already added up when it ends.

Shifts, attendance policies and rules
02

“Leave is asked for on WhatsApp, and nobody knows the balance.”

Leave

Every request lands in one queue. Managers approve from a single list, and the balance updates the moment they do. The team calendar shows who is away before anyone plans around them.

Leave types, policies and balances
03

“Overtime is worked out by hand, so payroll goes out late.”

Payroll

Approved hours flow straight into the payroll run. Components, allowances and deductions are set once. Run the month, review the totals, approve, and payslips go out.

Monthly payroll with a review step
04

“Every employee asks HR for their own payslip and leave balance.”

People

Each employee has their own login. They check their attendance, apply for leave, see their balances and download their payslips, and HR answers fewer quick questions.

Employee self-service
05

“Joining letters and experience certificates are typed out in Word every time.”

Documents

Letters come from templates. Joining letters, experience certificates and NOCs are generated from the employee record, not retyped from the last one.

Questions we get asked

If yours is not here, write to hello@hourlayer.com and a person on the team will reply.

How does a month run inside HourLayer?
Employees check in against their shift. Leave requests go to their manager for approval. At month-end you run payroll, review the totals and publish payslips, all from the same employee records.
Can employees apply for leave and see their payslips?
Yes. Each employee gets their own login to check attendance, apply for leave, see balances and download payslips.
Can we set our own leave types and salary components?
Yes. Leave types, leave policies, shifts, attendance rules, allowances and deductions are all set up by you.
Do you support more than one branch?
Yes. Add branches, departments and designations, and see the whole company on the organisation chart.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Start on the free plan for a small team of up to 5 employees, and upgrade from Settings when you need more employees or storage.
Is it only HR attendance and payroll?
No. Recruitment, onboarding, performance, training, letters, assets, meetings and the employee lifecycle run in the same system, on the same employee records. Turn on what you need.
Who can see what?
Roles decide it. HR can see everything, managers see their team and approve their requests, and employees see only their own attendance, leave and payslips.
We run on spreadsheets today. Is moving hard?
Add your employees, then set shifts, leave types and salary components once. The next month runs in HourLayer. Write to hello@hourlayer.com and a person on the team will help with setup.

Run next month’s payroll from the hours your team actually worked.

Add your people, set shifts, leave types and salary components once, and let check-ins, approvals and payslips follow from the same record. Start on the free plan and upgrade when the team grows.
